Prenol widely occurs in fruits, including citrus, blackberry, and passion fruit, and can be used in the synthesis of high efficiency and low toxicity pyrethroid insecticides such as methyl 3, 3-dimethylpent-4-enoate, permethrin, and DV chrysanthemum chloride. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of citral and other high-performance elastomers.
